SiteLauncher este un add-on pentru Firefox care oferă posibilitatea de a deschide rapid siturile web favorite folosind tastatura. O tastă scurtă specială lansează aplicaţia “Launcher”, iar cu o altă scurtătură unică se poate lansa situl web al dicţionarului preferat.

“Like other dictionaries, the Dictionary of American Regional English (DARE) is arranged alphabetically by headword, from A to Z. What is different about DARE is that it shows where people use the words that are included. We all know, for example, that Americans have many names for the kind of sandwich that includes meats, cheeses, lettuce, tomatoes, etc., served in a long bun. What DARE can tell you (and can often illustrate through the use of maps based on fieldwork) is where the words hero, hoagie, grinder, sub, torpedo, Cuban, etc. are the local terms for this sandwich.”

GEMET, the GEneral Multilingual Environmental Thesaurus, has been developed as an indexing, retrieval and control tool for the European Topic Centre on Catalogue of Data Sources (ETC/CDS) and the European Environment Agency (EEA), Copenhagen. The work has been carried out through a contract between the EEA and the ETC/CDS which is led by the Ministry of the Environment of Lower Saxony, includes members of Germany, Austria, Italy, Sweden and benefits of the collaboration of other member countries of the European Union (EU), as well as of UNEP Infoterra.

The basic idea for the development of GEMET was to use the best of the presently available excellent multilingual thesauri, in order to save time, energy and funds. GEMET was conceived as a “general” thesaurus, aimed to define a common general language, a core of general terminology for the environment. Specific thesauri and descriptor systems (e.g. on Nature Conservation, on Wastes, on Energy, etc.) have been excluded from the first step of development of the thesaurus and have been taken into account only for their structure and upper level terminology.

Speaking of Translation este un podcast, aţi ghicit, despre traduceri. Tematica podcasturilor cuprinde găsirea de clienţi noi, pieţe noi sau în creştere, formarea şi dezvoltarea profesională, negocierea tarifelor, interacţiunea cu clienţii, organizarea unui birou la domiciliu şi nu numai. Proiectul a fost iniţiat şi este realizat de Eve Bodeux şi Corinne McKay şi cuprinde, până în prezent, patru podcasturi. Cel mai recent dintre acestea este un interviu cu Judy Jenner intitulat “Lessons from Business School: The Entrepreneurial Linguist”. Podcastul, în limba engleză, poate fi ascultat aici. 

Semnalăm şi podcastul intitulat “Realize your earning potential with Chris Durban“ în care preşedinta Société française des Traducteurs (SFT), şi autoarea renumitului ghid de educare a clienţilor ”Translation: Getting it Right” vorbeşte despre creşterea satisfacţiei în practicarea profesiei de traducător şi mărirea veniturilor din activitatea profesională.

Köln,  21.  April  2009  –  Wer  schon  einmal  „tosender  Beifall“,  „wie  kaum  ein  anderer“ oder „Gewebekulturschale“ ins Englische übersetzen musste und unsicher war, welche Übersetzungen  korrekt  und  geläufig  sind,  dem  wird  nun  geholfen:  Mit  Linguee (www.linguee.de) kommt ab heute ein Internetdienst auf den Markt, mit dem man eine riesige  Menge  übersetzter  Texte  nach  Wörtern  und  Wortkombinationen  durchsuchen kann. Hierfür wird etwa tausendmal mehr Textmaterial zur Verfügung gestellt als von bisherigen Online-Wörterbüchern. Linguee bietet seinen kostenlosen Online-Dienst für
das  Sprachpaar  Deutsch-Englisch/Englisch-Deutsch  ab  sofort  an,  weitere  Sprachen werden im Laufe des Jahres folgen.
 
„Linguee   ist   besonders   nützlich,   wenn   man   professionelle   Texte   auf   englisch formulieren   muss   und   nach   speziellen   Vokabeln   und   Wendungen   aus   dem Berufsumfeld  sucht“,  so    Dr.  Gereon  Frahling,  Geschäftsführer  und  Gründer  von Linguee.  „Das  liegt  daran,  dass  Linguee  vor  allem  Unternehmenspräsentationen, juristische und politische Schriften sowie technische und medizinische Beschreibungen enthält,  also  die  Art  von  Texten,  die  beruflich  genutzt  und  entsprechend  formuliert

Linguee.de  ist  ein  Online-Wörterbuch,  das  umfassende  Hilfe  bei  der  Übersetzung  und  dem Verfassen von Texten auf Englisch anbietet.
